Nilar Chan

Nilar leads the group’s US Compliance Services with her extensive experience in advising US companies and Individuals on US taxation issues. With over 18 years of US Taxation experience, Nilar has been providing her clients with invaluable tax advice ensuring a smooth transition for individuals or companies moving into Asia. In the past few years, Asia has seen large number of US individuals arrivals with significant increase of movement into China. Nilar has been there with them by working closely and advising the clients of the tax implications and advising them how best to minimise the tax impact while complying with all the regulations of the US Tax Laws.

Nilar is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the California Society of Certified Public Accountants and a fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

US Individual Income Tax Experience

Nilar leads the Compliance Department in assisting US Individuals in Hong Kong and various countries to comply with their annual tax filings.  These are high net worth Individuals who are in the Forbes 400 list, Employees of Multi-National Corporations, Entrepreneurs as well as Bankers and Fund Managers.  This also includes performing hypothetical tax calculations for individuals who are on tax equalization plans with their US Multi-National Corporations.

US Corporate Income Tax Experience

Assist and advise non-US companies and individuals who wants to move to the US to expand their operations in setting up the proper structure to enhance the tax efficiency worldwide.  Assist in all aspects of tax compliance at both Federal and State levels.

Assist and advise US companies and individuals who wants to move their operations to the Far East in setting up the proper structure to enhance the tax efficiency worldwide.  Assist in all aspects of annual tax compliance.

Venture Capital Funds/Hedge Funds Experience

Assist and advise hedge funds and venture capital funds with the structure and identify tax efficient structures. Also provide assistance in annual filings to meet strict requirements imposed by the US Internal Revenue Service for foreign venture capital funds and US shareholders.

Representation before the Internal Revenue Service

Represent both Individuals and Corporations before the Internal Revenue Service or various State Tax Departments.  This could be either through correspondence, phone calls or field office meetings in Hong Kong.
